From Educational Exclusion to Higher Education

Rebooted has successfully completed a project supporting a young person whose circumstances placed them at significant risk of being excluded from education. Strict restrictions meant they could not use a conventional internet-connected device, threatening their ability to continue studying despite their commitment and academic potential.

Working closely with the National Extension College and the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Rebooted provided a specially configured device that met the required security conditions while allowing the learner to access their educational materials safely.

This intervention enabled the young person to continue and complete their A-level studies. We also supported them in applying to universities and other higher education establishments for degree-level study—an opportunity that might otherwise have been beyond their reach.

This is one of the reasons Rebooted does what it does: to ensure that a lack of suitable technology, personal circumstances, or complex barriers doesn’t prevent someone from continuing their education and fulfilling their potential.

Following the success of this project, Rebooted has established an ongoing partnership with the Metropolitan Police. Together, we are working to maintain a pool of secure devices that can be deployed when learners face similar restrictions. This will allow us to respond quickly, support more individuals and continue delivering our mission of using technology to overcome exclusion and create access to education.
