Security Data Erasure

IT & Security Team Sign-Off

Many organisations would love to donate used computers. However, they often stop due to the perceived data risks. The results of unauthorised access to a computer containing sensitive company or customer information could result in significant penalties or fines.

Although a “factory reset” is often suggested as the most effective method to remove all data from a computer, it does not ensure complete removal of data. Many times the data is still able to be recovered after a “factory reset”.

Our Solution: Data Erasure (NOT Reset)

We work with our partners to securely erase the data from donated computers. This is enterprise-grade data sanitisation which was designed specifically for companies requiring a robust and repeatable method for protecting company and customer data.

Our partners are ADISA certified and if required can provide an independent audit of the data erasure process and a data erasure certificate can be provided as evidence of sanitisation.

Benefits for Your Organisation

1. Removes the risk of exposing company/client/customer data to unauthorised parties
2. Provides assurance for compliance through documentation that supports internal approval and auditing
3. Creates a safe pathway for donation that does not compromise security standards
4. Enhances the sustainability story of your organisation through responsible reuse/recycling of computers

Benefits of Your Donation

When computers are sanitised for donation, they can be provided to those that need them the most including helping them:

  • Access education/training opportunities

  • Apply for employment

  • Remain connected to family/friends

  • Begin to rebuild stability and become self-sufficient again

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a factory reset sufficient?
No. A factory reset does not ensure that all data is removed. Therefore, we use enterprise-level sanitisation instead of a factory reset.

What proof can I receive?
We can provide a data erasure certificate if applicable, as proof that sanitisation was performed.

What is ADISA?
ADISA is a recognised certification body for IT Asset Disposal and Data Sanitisation. Getech, our data erasure service provider is ADISA certified, ensuring their processes were audited.

Do you sanitise data on every laptop?
Yes. All computers are processed through a secure erasure workflow. If you require something different, please let us know so we can advise on what documentation will be available for your specific batch.
